Explore Atlanta Beltline Eastside Trail

The Atlanta Beltline Eastside trail is the most established area on the Beltline with many restaurants, rooftop bars, breweries, food halls and attractions. Stretching from Piedmont Park in Midtown to Reynoldstown east of the city, the Atlanta Beltline Eastside Trail is full of beautiful views, great food and street art. Make a day out of all the things to experience on the Eastside Trail.

1. Piedmont Park

Piedmont Park is one of the many reasons why Atlanta is known as the City in the Forest. The wide paths throughout the park are perfect for biking or walking. Bring the dog out to one of the two dog parks, one for dogs larger than 30 pounds and one for small dogs weighing fewer than 30 pounds. Piedmont Park has basketball courts, tennis courts and soccer fields. Grab a bite to eat at Sean’s Heart of the Park located near the Piedmont Park Aquatic Center. Try fresh food from the seasonally changing menu. The Atlanta Botanical Garden is adjacent to Piedmont Park with its 30 acres of outdoor gardens to explore.

There is a parking garage near the Atlanta Botanical Garden at 1322 Monroe Drive. The first 30 minutes are free. On the other side of the park near Park Tavern, find paid parking at 1016 Monroe Drive NE. There is limited free parking along 10th Street.

2. Park Tavern

Park Tavern is a blend of sports bar, brewpub and restaurant. Located within Piedmont Park, the restaurant provides gorgeous views along with tasty bites to eat. From chicken sandwiches to wings to shrimp po boys, there are plenty choices. Park Tavern always has something going on so stop in for a bottomless brunch or to watch the big game. There is limited free parking along 10th Street and a paid parking deck on Monroe Drive.

3. Virginia Highland

Virginia Highland is a popular intown neighborhood.

With several fun walkable blocks, Virginia Highland is located right off the Eastside Beltline across the street from Piedmont Park. It is the perfect one-stop shop for all things food, fun and fashion. Street parking is easy to find and many businesses offer free parking as well. The Local is right off the Eastside Trail in Virginia Highland and you can’t make a stop there without trying the lemon pepper wings.

4. Dos Burros

The neon and bright colors on the outside of Dos Burros draw you in for some out-of-this-world Mexican food. Try the taqueria-style dishes including barbacoa, pollo tinga and lengua (yes, cow tongue).

5. Ponce City Market

The Atlanta Beltline entrance is but one way to enter to Ponce City Market.

Work up an appetite by walking the Eastside Beltline Trail to this popular food hall and market located in the old Sears, Roebuck & Co. building. When it comes to lunch spots you can take your pick since there are more than a dozen. From tasty entrees for sharing at Atrium to vegan bites and drinks at Bar Vegan, you might need to make two trips to experience all the market has to offer. On the top floor of Ponce City Market, explore Citizen Supply for a variety of local businesses to support.

There is an attached paid parking lot along with a parking deck with easy Beltline access. If you are on your bike, safely leave it at the bike parking rack while you grab a bite.

6. Skyline Park

Give your legs a break and take an elevator ride up to the Skyline Park located on The ROOF at Ponce City Market. The family-friendly games and attractions make for a fun day with a gorgeous view of the downtown Atlanta and Buckhead skylines. You’ll also find Nine Mile Station up there for the perfect spot to grab a bite to eat or enjoy a cocktail.

7. Historic Old Fourth Ward Park

Covering 17 acres, Fourth Ward Park is the perfect stop if you need to relax and take in serene views. There is a splash pad, playground and a two-acre lake.

Visit the skate park, built with $25,000 worth of help from legendary skate boarder Tony Hawk. The park is home to an amphitheater for concerts and events. Find street parking along Angier Avenue, Morgan Street, Garden Park Drive, Dallas Street and Rankin Street.

8. FORTH Hotel

The luxury FORTH Hotel is right next to historic Old Fourth Ward Park. There are a variety of fitness and wellness amenities including an outdoor pool, 20,000 square-foot fitness center and a spa.

You don’t need to be a guest to enjoy the four food and beverage offerings ranging from an Italian steak house to a coffee shop. The rooftop bar, Moonlight, provides one of the best views in the city. Reservations are recommended.

9. New Realm Brewing Company

Take a break on the Eastside Trail by stopping at New Realm Brewing Company for a beer. Settle in on the first floor patio to enjoy the action on the trail or head to the rooftop. The brews are always changing so you never know what you’ll get to try.

10. The Victorian and Burle’s Bar

The Victorian is a creative plant shop located on the Eastside Trail. Chat with experts about the perfect plant for your home or garden. Plants range from tropical to desert to various sunlight varieties. Also find a variety of home goods and plant care products to purchase.

Located right above, you’ll find Burle’s Bar. The name is inspired by Roberto Burle Marx, who discovered many tropical plant species. The bar is known for its Jazz Tuesdays, creating smooth vibes to accompany your cocktail.

11. 3 Parks Wine Shop – Old Fourth Ward

Pick up some wine to take home at 3 Parks Wine.

Grab a glass of wine or flight and relax on the patio at 3 Parks Wine. There are two locations, one in Old Fourth Ward on the Beltline and another in Glenwood Park. Each location has a large selection of wines to take home.

12. TWO Urban Licks

TWO Urban Licks serves wood-fired cuisine to go with the gorgeous views inside and out. From being right off the Atlanta Beltline Eastside Trail to having the interior centered around a Todd Murphy painting, TWO Urban Licks provides a picture-perfect dining experience.

13. Ladybird Grove & Mess Hall

Enjoy a patio-style dinner at Ladybird Grove & Mess Hall. This eatery prides itself on being the first outdoor-oriented bar and restaurant along the Eastside Atlanta Beltline Trail. Plenty of free parking is available in the lot behind the restaurant, and a bike rack is handy for those pedaling along the trail.

15. The James Room

Need a nightcap? Make the perfect transition from day to night at The James Room, located right on the Eastside Beltline trail. This chic speakeasy lives behind a picturesque cafe and can be entered only through the bookshelf-styled doors. If you get there early, you can enjoy a cup of coffee before heading into the Speakeasy lounge which opens at 5 p.m.

16. Krog Street Market

Fill up with delicious bites from the many independent food stalls at Krog Street Market. Enjoy Tex-Mex cuisine from Superica or a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand burger from Fred’s Meat & Bread. There is limited parking in the attached lot, however, you can find free street parking on many of the nearby streets in the area. Krog Street market is easily accessible from the Eastside trail by foot. Plenty of bike parking is also available.

17. Hawkers Asian Street Food

Enjoy Asian street food on the patio at Hawkers. Located across from Krog Street Market, Hawkers makes baos and dumplings that go perfectly with a craft cocktail.

18. Emerald City Bagels

New York style bagels in Atlanta? Sign us up. Go for the classic bagel and cream cheese or a fried egg sandwich. The yummy food doesn’t stop at breakfast so make sure to try the inverted grilled cheese. It’s a bagel sliced and grilled with the cut-side out and cheese in-between.

19. McCray’s Tavern

Discover good food and great vibes at McCray’s Tavern. Start off with a pretzel, snack on a Caesar salad and finish off with a signature sammie such as the buffalo chicken panini. Try a boozy soda such as Duke’s Orange Soda, Not Ya-Mama’s Vodka Soda or Kerns Kola. If you head upstairs, you’ll find the Tiki Bar Hideaway. The patio is dog-friendly.

20. Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park

Martin Luther King Jr.’s birth home is steps from the Atlanta Beltline.

Three blocks from the Eastside trail you can find Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historical Park. Explore the 35 acres that encompass King’s birth home, the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church and the final resting place for Dr. King and Coretta Scott King. Free parking is available on John Wesley Dobbs Avenue between Jackson Street and Boulevard.

21. Krog Street Tunnel

Walk, drive or skate your way through the Krog Street Tunnel.

Liven up your Beltline walk with this fun tunnel that links the Cabbagetown, Reynoldstown and Inman Park neighborhoods. You can experience it by car or on foot with safe sidewalks on both sides of the tunnel. The art is ever-changing with new creations constantly popping up.

22. 97 Estoria

After you walk through Krog Street Tunnel, find 97 Estoria on the right. The large patio is perfect for hanging out with friends or listening to live music. Their kitchen is open until 10 p.m. every night.

You can’t miss the MLK Sculpture on Freedom Park Trail.

24. Wylie Street

Take a tour of this outdoor gallery.

Past the Krog Street Tunnel, walk or bike along Wylie Street for views of hand-painted murals. These works of art change regularly and are a part of the Forward, Warrior!! Project. It’s a picture-perfect spot. If you keep your eyes out, you’ll find the first-ever Tiny Door that was installed in 2014.
